Infor Announces Improved Verification of Dutch Patron Addresses in Vubis Smart

BRUSSELS, Belgium, November 4, 2007. Infor announced today that it has improved the verification of addresses in the Vubis Smart Dutch patron records through the integration of web services.  Vubis Smart now dynamically interfaces with the XML-gateway of Cendris (www.cendris.com) in order to provide better, more accurate patron addresses. The Cendris XML-gateway is available through the XML-RPC Web service, a variant of the SOAP-protocol that works through HTTP POST.

Through web services, Vubis Smart automatically verifies the accuracy of the following information:

1. Postal code. The web service returns a complete address on the basis of the postal code and house number (in the event that the combination of house number and postal code is incorrect, the service returns an error message).
2. Address. The web service returns the correct postal code on the basis of street address, house number and city (in the event that the combination of street, house number and city does not exist, the service returns an error message).

Both verification functions are integrated in the borrower administration of Vubis Smart. Through definable parameters, the library can choose one or both functions. The verifications occur either automatically or manually, while the process remains entirely transparent to the library user. Besides its availability in the borrower administration, the address verification functionality can also be activated in the user Web interface. If a user registers as a guest, or if an existing user wants to change his or her address, the web service can verify the address information.

The address verification occurs online, in real-time, as the library staff enters borrower information. In addition, the library can activate a "bulk check"of selected patron records in the database. The online address verification process ensures that addresses are always up-to-date.  The system does not require therefore the importing of external address files.

The Cendris web service works with the Dutch postal code system only. In order to use the service, libraries must contract directly with Cendris. The address verification functionality will be available as an add-on in Vubis Smart release 2.5.
